In these works I challenge canvas and paper by combining them with contrasting materials some which I collected in my travel to Spain. The Spanish sunshine and the colors of the landscape enter into these paintings and collages. The materials I select to combine with canvas and paper reinforce the warmth and airiness of the countryside. My long-term interest in the light behind the work continues here. The breath and breadth of life is my goal. My art reaches for the life force which inspires it. Some of these canvases peek through scraps of acrylic sheeting, revealing a transparency as an invitation through an open window. Strands of red string enter into a dialogue with spots of red paint strung across seemingly sunlit fields. Combining Spain’s local found materials with my mixed media drawings and paintings on paper, I seek to capture the atmosphere and environment of Spain. |
